[smear the blood of a sacrifice on the mouth — an ancient form of swearing an oath] 古人盟會(huì )時(shí),微飲牲血,或含于口中,或涂于口旁,以示信守誓言的誠意

國語(yǔ)辭典古代盟誓時(shí)，用牲血涂在嘴邊，表示守信不悔。《谷梁傳．莊公二十七年》：「衣裳之會(huì )十有一，未嘗有歃血之盟也，信厚也?！?/span>《淮南子．齊俗》：「故胡人彈骨，越人契臂，中國歃血也，所由各異，其于信一也?！?/span>也稱(chēng)為「啑血」、「唼血」。
